Dangerous World

Travel Safety Information for the Caribbean, Central America and South America

dangerous adj.  1. full of risk; hazardous; unsafe.

It's a dangerous world that we live in.  There are dangerous places, dangerous jobs, dangerous hobbies and people that are just plain dangerous to be around.  You could always just avoid places, occupations and activities that are perceived to be hazardous.  This is probably the wisest course of action for a lot of people.

You may find yourself facing a decision regarding foreign travel in this dangerous world of ours.  Either in the course of your employment or for personal reasons.  We know that the tourist bureau for your intended destination may not provide you with the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.  Their job is to get you to travel to their country and spend your money.  They sense no obligation to tell you anything that might affect your safety, especially if it affects their pocketbook.

Brazil's president even went as far as to say that television channels that can be seen abroad should consider reducing coverage of day-to-day violence to help tourism.

We want you to know what's going on, good or bad.  The travel safety information you will find here, you will not find in travel brochures and magazines.  If you find something here that helps you to stay out of a potentially dangerous situation, that's great, glad we could help.  We are not trying to talk you into going anywhere.

You may review the information and reach a decision that it's just to dangerous to travel to your intended destination in the Caribbean, Central America or South America.  In that case, we respectfully suggest that you stay home and read a good book.

We are not trying to make anybody's decision for them.  But, if you don't do your homework and get in over your head, we may be reading about you at another popular website.  If you should decide to travel to one of the places listed here and survive to tell about it, drop us a line.  There's no guarantee that your information will be included, and we aren't going to pay you a dime.  If you send something we like, and we use it, we'll send you one of our tank tops or bandanas.  If you submit anonymously, that will make it awfully hard for us to send you a shirt.

 Make a Difference
If you want to make things better, that's great!  You might be able to help an organization like Paramedics for Children in Honduras, or Casa Alianza throughout Central America.  If you know about an organization working to improve conditions in Latin America or the Caribbean - drop us a line, we would like to tell their story.  If you are interested in serving as a volunteer, we will try to find an organization that can make use of you talents and efforts.
